Update of Activities for the Residency Special Interest Group

The Residency Special Interest Group (SIG) convened at the 2009 Combined Sections Meeting recently in Las Vegas, Nevada and had a very productive meeting. Highlights included election of the SIG officers:

b. Vice-Chair: Scott Straker
c. Secretary: John DeWitt
d. Treasurer: Airelle Hunter-Giordano

An update of the SIG’s development over the initial year of its formation included a report of the status of current Sports Section residencies and fellowship programs, an overview of the "Residency 101" program (which was held at the recent Team Concepts Conference in Orlando, FL), and the current management of inquiries regarding residency and fellowship program development. A discussion on the formation of teams of individuals to manage areas pertinent to residency and fellowship growth and development was initiated. The areas identified as being critical in this regard included website correspondence, formation of a test bank, and educational programming.

The meeting provided a forum for a good discussion and networking amongst residency and fellowship directors, faculty, and participants. A special thanks goes to Teresa Schuemann for organizing and leading this initial return of the Residency SIG and for providing valuable insight in its development. We encourage any section members who are interested in residency and fellowship program development to join us in the future.
