Welcome to the Youth Athlete Special Interest Group! The SIG was officially formed and recognized in 1999. We are a collaborative effort with the Section on Pediatric Physical Therapy's Pediatric SIG, which was formed at the same time. The focus of the SIG is tri-fold:
-
Prevention, examination, and intervention of impairments in the child who participates in sports;
-
Training and fitness guidelines for the child who participates in sports; and
-
Training, fitness, and sports for the child with a disability.
As the Youth Athlete SIG continues to grow, we have many great ideas for the future. Most of our activities occur at APTA's annual Combined Sections Meeting (CSM). Our annual planning/business meeting is held in conjunction with the Pediatric Section’s Pediatric SIG. Your suggestions for programming ideas and speakers are welcome, and can be forwarded to Craig Goldstein, the SIG Vice-Chair or myself, at any time during the year.
Updates of the Youth Athlete SIG information are detailed in the Pediatric Section newsletter. All SIG members will find both the first and second editions on the Pediatric Sections' web site.

We have organized 15 regional representatives. Contact Cindy Miles or check the web sites for the representative in your region. One of our primary objectives is to share ideas and your regional representative is an excellent source to do so. Please be sure to keep us informed of any changes to your address, phone number, or e-mail address.
