WHAT IS THE LEGACY FUND

In order to assure the continuation of essential sports physical therapy mentorship and research, the Sports Physical Therapy Section has established The Legacy Fund in 2005. The name describes the purpose of this fund - to leave a legacy of excellence and continued advancement within the profession that has seen so much progress in the past thirty years. This fund is separate from the SPTS general operational budget and all money received is returned to SPTS research and mentorship activities.

The Legacy Fund relies on the SPTS membership and outside contributions for support of its important work. Initial support for this fund was provided by the current President and all of the Past-Presidents of the SPTS. The President’s Challenge Club was founded through the initial contribution of each of these individuals. Subsequently, individuals and Corporate Partners are encouraged to match the gifts that have formed the foundation of The Legacy Fund by making contributions at the various participation levels.

The Legacy Fund is managed by a committee of four Sports Physical Therapy Section members. This group of volunteers has the experience to successfully oversee and direct the operations of the Fund, including long term planning, fund raising, and business development. The research sub-committee is responsible for evaluating applications for grants to be received from the fund, as well as monitoring the on-going progress of each project.
